7 Tips for Better Self-Esteem

Nothing is more important than the way you feel about yourself as you go through this world. Having high self-esteem is the key to achieving success in any area of your life. It can be difficult as teens and young adults to have high self-esteem. Here are several tips for better self-esteem.

1. Don’t listen to your inner critic.

We all have that inner voice that is constantly being critical of everything about ourselves. We all have that inner voice that is constantly whispering mean remarks. You have the power to stop you inner critic though. Just think to yourself, “I’m not listening to you.”

2. Take a self-appreciation break.

Spend two minutes a day appreciating yourself. Slow down, take a deep breath, and ask yourself what three things you love about yourself in that moment.

3. Don’t be a perfectionist.

Perfectionism can be so destructive. It can make you so afraid to fail that you never take any action at all. Perfectionism can be downright harmful to you and those that you care about.

4. Look at failure in a more positive way.

Everyone is going to fall down and make mistakes. This is okay. When you learn to accept and even embrace failure, there’s nothing you can’t do. Every mistake, every failure, is an opportunity to learn something. Never forget that.

5. Try new things.

When you force yourself outside of your comfort zone to try new things, you force yourself to stretch and grow. And at the end of the day, you will feel really great about yourself because you tried something new.

6. Be kind to others.

When you are kind to other people, you will be kinder to yourself. Taking a minute to help someone or listen to someone who needs you can make all the difference in the world, and it can make you feel great.

7. Don’t compare yourself to others.

This one is difficult in this age of Twitter and Facebook. We are all comparing ourselves to each other on a daily basis. But we shouldn’t be. Because you are not in the same situation as anyone else. Only compare yourself to who you were yesterday.

Having high self-esteem and having a positive self-image can make all the difference in the world. Try some of these tips above and see if your self-esteem improves because of it. I am betting that it will!25
